At only 3.8 % abv., this one has tons of body and flavor. The feel is actually rather nice for the mango and hop, as the thickness seems to accentuate them and make them “heavier” in taste. the body is rather thick with a carbonation level that is one the moderate side. Mouthfeel – For a brew of only 3.8 % abv. These grow stronger to the end, and leave one with a moderately sweet, but nicely dank hopped taste to linger on the tongue. All the while some dank hop tastes start entering the flavor profile. The mango grows slightly stronger as the taste advances, but it never gets too overwhelming. Taste – The taste begins with a somewhat more bready taste that has a hint of mango sweetness.

With fruit, hops, and a low ABV, this beer truly is on another level. This hoppy, session ale gets a flavor boost from mango, which perfectly plays off the citrusy hop bouquet. Smell – The aroma of the brew is strongest of a mango smell mixed with other aromas of bready aromas as well as a bit of grass and herb. Our Mango Even Keel is the ideal beer for easy drinking. The head fades rather fast to leave a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Pass me a Sculpin! Feb 18, 2016Īppearance – The beer pours a clear orange amber color with a fizzy white head. Too many strikes against it for me: 1) I do not like "session AIPAs" 2) the name built up an unrealistic expectation in my mind 3) I generally like bitter beers and yet, this seemed overly bitter. Finish was semi-dry with the sweetness of the mango keeping it from being outright dry and bitter. It should have been called "Even Keel with Mango", instead. Underlying it was the fruity sweetness of the mango, but it was not worthy of top billing. The taste was quite bitter, but I do not remember mango being like this, so the hops had to be creating that part of the taste. Mouthfeel was slightly thin, which is a common failing in these "session AIPs", IMHO. I will grant you, I have not eaten fresh mango in a while, but this struck me as natural and not artificial. DeCANt gently, boys & girls! Nose was lightly pine-y with lemon zest & mango. Color was Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity.

A swirl in the glass raised a finger of foamy, fizzy, eggshell-white head with good clarity. It began with a nice, loud Crack!, but since some reviewers have mentioned a haze, I am going with a gentle Glug to get things started. With fruit, hops, and a low ABV, this beer is truly on another level." A Paul Elder (?) painting of a dreadlocked pirate skeleton and his skeletal parrot are depicted in a hammock, drinking a beer from a treasure chest filled with gold and bottles "Please Recycle". This hoppy, sessionable ale gets a flavor boost from mango, which perfectly plays off the citrusy hop bouquet.
